Questions & Answers
Q. Even if I agree that we Christians should try to accomplish more in our friendships, doesn’t that depend on the other person having the same vision, the same understanding of the Togethers?
A. Not necessarily. You can learn what God asks for in relationships between Christians and then just start obeying. Your friend will usually go right along with what you are doing, even without knowing “The Togethers of Scripture.” One way to learn what God wants and get a few ideas of how to proceed is to ask for our “Friends Together with Jesus” cards, available only through a donation to this ministry.
But it will speed things along if you help your friends see that the church of Jesus Christ as manifested in your friendship is very important for giving God what He wants from the church. Unfortunately, many Christians are in the faith for what they can get out of it, rather than for what they can give back in love to the God who saved them from hell. Therefore, it would be a great thing for you and your friends to give God the kind of obedience He asks for.
In the unlikely case that your friendship emphasizes getting one more blessing after another from God, invite your friends up to the higher purpose of living for God.
True life in Christ and true church is Christians in relationship with one another and together in relationship with God. This gives our Lord what He has asked for — lifestyle worship. We have categorized the qualities of that relationship with God in the Togethers. Study these Togethers with your friend(s), praying that he/she/they will capture a vision for following God more closely.
