Questions & Answers
Q. My extended family is mostly Christian, but they certainly don’t view family gatherings as a key component of the larger church. How can I change their outlook on family life?
A. Next time your extended family is together, ask them: “Jesus said where two or three meet in His name, He will be with them. Does that mean this family is a component of the church?” Let everyone think about this for a while. Just be careful to not let the dialogue become an argument.
If need be, say, “This is not something to argue about. Maybe we can pray and think about it. It seems that if we are part of the church, we might have many powerful things we can do to help one another in our family gatherings.”
Just don’t let this discussion drop by the wayside. Keep it active by restating the question from time to time at family gatherings to see how everyone’s thinking is progressing.
Eventually, to understand more of the possibilities, read the “Togethers” and maybe get our “Family Together with Jesus” cards.
